Teak oil, cleaner and protector do different jobs
Products marketed as teak oil vary by manufacturer. Their names do not establish that they are suitable for every piece of teak furniture. Check the label, existing finish and furniture maker's care guidance before choosing a treatment.
HiTeak's current branded care products are named Teak Cleaner and Teak Protector. The kit describes its Protector as an oil-free, water-based formula. Calling that product a generic teak oil would obscure the distinction buyers need to make.
Choose by purpose
Cleaning removes buildup or restores appearance. Protection helps maintain the prepared surface. A color change from golden brown to silver-gray is normal weathering, so color restoration is optional.

A practical clean-then-protect routine
- Inspect the furniture. Check for dirt, mildew, rough patches and any existing finish before choosing a product.
- Clean for your goal. For routine upkeep, follow the HiTeak care guide. For restoration of weathered wood, use HiTeak Teak Cleaner according to its label.
- Let the wood dry as instructed. Product preparation and drying requirements take precedence over a generic timetable.
- Protect when applicable. Apply HiTeak Teak Protector to the surface condition specified on the label. It is intended for clean, naturally weathered teak.
- Repeat when needed. Clean at least twice yearly. Apply Protector two or more times yearly depending on use and exposure, following the label.

If another oil or finish has already been applied
A restoration plan depends on the product already on the surface. Do not assume a cleaner will remove every hardened coating. Check care instructions and warranty terms
HiTeak's care guidance advises against generic teak oils and other finishes outside its recommended routine. Use the named HiTeak care products according to their instructions. The published limited warranty lists exclusions for damage caused by misuse, modifications or failure to provide reasonable care. Ask customer service about an existing finish or a proposed treatment if you are unsure.

Should I use teak oil on HiTeak outdoor furniture?
HiTeak recommends its branded Teak Cleaner for weathered wood and Teak Protector for surface protection. Generic teak oil is not the same product as HiTeak Teak Protector. Follow the product label and HiTeak care instructions before applying a treatment.
Is HiTeak Teak Protector a teak oil?
The current HiTeak care range describes Teak Protector as a water-based stain barrier. The Complete Teak Care Kit describes its Protector as oil-free and solvent-free. Select the product by its name and instructions rather than treating all teak treatments as interchangeable.
Which HiTeak product should I use on gray teak?
Use HiTeak Teak Cleaner when you want to restore weathered, gray teak toward its original color. If you prefer the silver-gray appearance, keep the furniture clean without restoring the color. Natural silvering is a normal surface change.
How often should I clean and protect my furniture?
Clean teak furniture at least twice a year, with more frequent cleaning when dirt or debris builds up. HiTeak recommends Teak Protector two or more times per year depending on use and sun exposure. Follow the bottle instructions for preparation, application and drying.
Can I use HiTeak Teak Protector on a dining table?
Yes. The product is intended for clean, naturally weathered teak and helps guard against wine, salad oil and coffee stains. Wipe up spills promptly and follow the label. It does not remove the need for regular cleaning.
What should I do if I already applied another oil or finish?
Identify the product used and contact HiTeak customer service before stripping, sanding or adding another treatment. The appropriate preparation depends on the existing finish and the condition of the furniture. Review the published care instructions and warranty exclusions before proceeding.
