Most outdoor bar seating fails for one reason: the stool and the table were bought separately, and the heights do not match. The math is simple once you know it. Here it is, with real measurements.

Bar Height vs. Counter Height, Defined
The two standards are not interchangeable, and mixing them ruins the seating.
The Two Height Standards
Matches a kitchen counter or grill station. Seats around 24 to 26 inches. Easier to climb into, better for kids and long dinners. Example: the Mirador table stands 36 inches; the Director counter armchair's seat is 25.75 inches.
The taller, standing-friendly standard. Seats around 28 to 30 inches. Better sightlines over railings and pool fences. Example: the Oasis bar table stands 41.75 inches; the Director bar armchair's seat is 29.5 inches.

The 10-to-12-Inch Rule
Comfortable seating needs roughly 10 to 12 inches between the seat surface and the underside of the tabletop. That gap is what lets legs cross and elbows rest naturally. Run the check on any pairing before you buy:
- Measure the table height. A Mirador Counter Height Table is 36 inches; an Oasis Bar Table is 41.75 inches.
- Subtract the stool's seat height. The Director Counter Height Armchair sits at 25.75 inches; the Director Bar Armchair at 29.5 inches.
- Check the result lands near 10 to 12. Mirador plus Director counter chair gives 10.25 inches; Oasis plus Director bar chair gives 12.25. Both work.
If You Have Arms, Check Arm Height Too
Armchairs need their arms to clear the table apron or slide under the top. The Director counter armchair's arms sit at 32 inches, which tucks under the Mirador's 36-inch top with room to spare. When in doubt, compare arm height against the underside of the table, not the surface.
Which Height Suits Your Space

How Many Stools Fit?
Allow about 26 to 30 inches of table edge per seated person so shoulders and elbows are not touching. The Director chairs are each 24 inches wide, so a 60-inch-long table edge like the Mirador's seats two people comfortably per side, and a 32-inch-square bar table like the Oasis seats one per side. Crowding a third stool onto a side that measures for two is the second most common outdoor bar mistake, right after mismatched heights.
Arms, Folding Frames, and Contract Grade
Beyond height, three build choices matter:
- Arms or armless. Arms add comfort for long sitting; armless chairs tuck fully under the table and suit tighter spaces.
- Folding frames. The Director line folds flat, which is worth having on balconies and small patios where the bar area is not in daily use.
- Contract-grade testing. The Director chairs are tested to BIFMA 5.1, the standard used by hospitality buyers. For a home, that rating is simply a proxy for how much daily abuse the frame tolerates.
