How to Choose a Teak Adirondack Chair
For Your Patio

A closer look at seat height, usable space and the choice between an Adirondack, a rocker and a chaise.

Choose a teak Adirondack chair when you want a low, stationary seat for reading or conversation. Before you buy, check the usable seat dimensions, try the sitting height and measure the space around the chair. Choose a rocker if you want movement, or a full chaise if you want to stretch out.

A quiet corner of the patio can be enough for a place you use every evening. Getting the chair right starts with how you want to sit there. A reclined back may look inviting in a photograph, but the seat height and room for your feet deserve the same attention.

The Bainbridge Adirondack Chair offers a useful reference: its overall footprint measures 29 inches wide by 34 inches deep, while its seat measures 18.5 inches wide by 17 inches deep and sits 12 inches high. Those measurements describe different parts of the chair. Use each for the decision it helps you make.

Start With How You Want to Sit

For a porch overlooking the garden, you may want a stationary chair that lets you lean back and talk. For an afternoon by the pool, you may prefer a lounger that supports your legs. If you enjoy rocking while you read, look at the rocker as a separate choice.

The Bainbridge Adirondack has a sloping seat and angled back. The Bainbridge Rocking Chair shares the collection’s design language and adds a rocking base. The Montauk Sunlounger takes a different approach, with a long sling seat, five-position reclining back and rear wheels.

Use the Adirondack for seated lounging, the rocker for seated lounging with movement, and the chaise for a longer reclining setup. If a full-length lounger is your first choice, our teak chaise lounge guide covers that decision in more depth.

Read Seat Dimensions Separately From the Footprint

The chair’s outside width tells you how much patio space it occupies. The published seat width gives you a separate measurement to consider when assessing personal fit. On the Bainbridge Adirondack, those widths are 29 inches and 18.5 inches.

The rocker shows why comparing outside widths alone can mislead you. It measures 26 inches wide overall, yet its published seat width is 22.75 inches. A narrower overall chair can have a wider seat. Compare the listed seat measurements for each model before choosing by appearance.

Seat height matters too. The Adirondack’s 12-inch seat sits lower than the rocker’s 16.75-inch seat. Try a floor model if you can, and pay attention to sitting down, standing up and resting your feet. Your height and preferred posture will affect which chair you enjoy using.

Measurements help you narrow the choice; they cannot establish comfort for every person. Seat angle, back shape and any cushion you add also affect how you sit.

Compare Three HiTeak Seating Options

All dimensions below are in inches. Overall dimensions use width × depth × height; seat dimensions use seat width × seat depth × seat height.

Model Overall dimensions Published seat dimensions Assembly
Bainbridge Adirondack
HLAC2523
29 × 34 × 33 18.5 × 17 × 12 Full assembly required
Bainbridge Rocking Chair
HLAC2982
26 × 36.25 × 39.25 22.75 × 20.5 × 16.75 Simple assembly; one person
Montauk Sunlounger
HLSL985
29 × 82.5; listed height range 13.75–41.75 22 × 52 × 13.75 Full assembly required

The Montauk’s 82.5-inch overall depth calls for a much longer furniture footprint than either Bainbridge chair. The rocker needs room for movement beyond a static outline. The published dimensions do not establish walking clearance or the rocker’s full range of travel.

HiTeak lists a 250-pound capacity for each Bainbridge chair and 300 pounds for the Montauk. These are the published model ratings. They do not establish commercial certification or tell you how much open space to leave around the furniture.

Plan the Chair, the Table and Your Walking Route

Mark the furniture footprints on your patio before you order. Start with a 29-by-34-inch rectangle for each Bainbridge Adirondack. Then add a separate outline for the table you intend to use.

Leave room for your feet in the seated position, access to each chair and the route you use through the patio. Open the nearby door and check whether the layout interferes with it. A rectangle that fits on the deck is only the beginning of the layout check.

For a pair of chairs, the Bainbridge Lounge Set includes two Bainbridge Adirondack chairs and one Dane Side Table. HiTeak lists the table at 19.75 inches square and 16.5 inches high. Place its outline between the chair outlines, then check your preferred spacing in person. The set’s component dimensions do not establish the finished arrangement’s total footprint.

If you prefer to choose a table separately, the Rudolph Side Table measures 19 inches in diameter and 21.5 inches high. Compare its height with the lower Dane table and consider where you want to rest a drink or book. Test the reach from your seated position.

Check Assembly Before You Plan the First Evening Outside

The Bainbridge Adirondack requires full assembly. The Bainbridge Lounge Set requires full assembly for all pieces, with two people recommended. The rocker requires simple assembly, which the product listing describes as a one-person task.

Choose the setup that works with your available help and workspace. Read the model’s assembly instructions before beginning and confirm any missing tools or instructions with HiTeak. The word “set” describes the included pieces; check the assembly requirements for the package you choose.

Confirm current availability and delivery arrangements before making plans around an arrival date. A product page, collection label or published buying guide cannot confirm the timing of your particular order.

Keep the Care Decision With the Current Instructions

HiTeak lists the Bainbridge pieces with a hand-sanded natural teak finish. For cleaning, finish care and seasonal questions, follow the current care and maintenance instructions. Check the customer service page for current purchase terms, or ask the team about your order before buying.

Buying for a Hotel or Shared Outdoor Space?

A homeowner can choose around personal posture and a measured patio layout. A hospitality buyer also needs to confirm the exact model, quantity, assembly responsibility, receiving arrangements and the project’s specification requirements.

Send that shortlist through the commercial program. Request model-specific test documentation if your project requires it, and confirm availability and delivery plans in writing. A residential buying recommendation or a published weight rating does not establish commercial certification.

Choose the Chair for Your Corner of the Patio

Start with the Bainbridge Adirondack’s seat height and footprint. Compare the rocker if you want movement, then check current availability with HiTeak. For a fit question, send the model number and your patio measurements to the team.
